Free Concert @ Christ Church Cathedral Sunday June 3rd at 8pm – All Welcome
The EMERALD ISLE SINGS! CHORAL FESTIVEL is under the auspices of Sechrist Travel, has drawn choirs and individuals from Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Texas, and Wisconsin to form a festival chorus of 75 singers in a performance of the music of John Leavitt and World Premier of his newest choral cantata entitled, BOUND FOR GLORY!, a collection or American Spirituals .
The event will culminate with featured performances in Limerick and Dublin, Ireland. It will feature professional Irish Musicians, accompanying the festival chorus, in performance of Bound for Glory!, written specially for this event, as well as Leavittss arrangements of The Salley Gardens, The Sound of Music: Choral Highlights, The Rhythm of Life, and A Celtic Prayer. The concert will conclude with one of Dr. Leavitt’s most successful titles, River in Judea.

John Leavitt
John Leavitt’s career has included more than three decades as a practicing church musician and twenty years as a University Music Professor and Director of Choral Activities. He has served as director for non-profit community choirs for both children and adults and has been a published composer of sacred and secular music for more than three decades. He is a doctoral conducting graduate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, which honored him in 2012 as Alumni of the Year. He has won awards from the American Society of Authors, Composers, and Publishers, the Kansas Arts Commission, as well as many others. He has written commissioned works for multiple events, institutions, and organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, Kansas Music Educators Association, the St. Olaf Choir, The University of Colorado, and the City of Northbrook, Illinois, to name a few.
Dr. Leavitt is a regular guest conductor at Carnegie Hall in New York where many of his works have been premiered or performed. He has made several appearances at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. He has conducted in major cities and small towns throughout the United States and Canada. Much of his music and many of his arrangements have become standard repertoire, being performed regularly in more than 30 countries. His music has been featured on many public radio stations across the country.
John Leavitt’s career has spanned 40 years plus which includes more than 30 years writing and publishing music across all media and genres. He has also recorded twenty albums of choral, orchestral, and piano music. His greatest output though lies with choral music.
