Joe Strummer Grant for MYF
The Joe Strummer Foundation awards grant to Musical Youth Foundation to provide over 100 hours of music education to children across Dublin. The generous donation will facilitate professional guitar lessons and workshops in singing, song-writing and live performance for over 100 children.
The Musical Youth Foundation is delighted to announce that we are to receive a donation of £5,000. (approx. €7,000) from the prestigious Joe Strummer Foundation. The donation will enable the Musical Youth Foundation to provide 100 more hours of expert music tuition to 100 of the children participating in their ‘Guitars for Kids’ music education programme across 6 locations in Dublin.
Children involved with the project will benefit from increased self-confidence, concentration and social skills while academically those partaking in music lessons are known to achieve better exam results than those that don’t. In addition to the weekly guitar classes and practise sessions the charity also offer specialist music workshops in singing, song-writing and live performance.
Chris Maher, Musical Youth Foundation Founder and CEO, says: “We are delighted to be working with such a prominent organisation as The Joe Strummer Foundation. Together we’re going to bring music equality to children everywhere. Music really does change lives. This grant will mean kids that never would have had the chance otherwise, will now have access to a professional music education and all the many associated life-changing benefits.”
The Joe Strummer Foundation gives opportunities to aspiring musicians and support to projects around the world that create social mobility through music.
Jamie Webb, Charity Secretary and Co-ordinator for the Joe Strummer Foundation, says: “The Joe Strummer Foundation is delighted to help the Musical Youth Foundation with its guitars for kids projects, such a worthwhile cause that will hopefully help and inspire the kids to go onto to achieve great things.”
Global studies show the benefits of music education stretch way beyond the lessons, helping to build a child’s self-confidence and improve concentration and performance even outside of music lessons themselves. The group settings for music lessons also provide a great outlet for kids to socialize and communicate with their peers in a friendly and importantly a supportive environment.
